April Fools action

Just three weeks before 21 April, a colourful event will be a great chance to engage with people and hopefully get a bit of local press coverage. Details to be decided, but SAVE THE DATE !

DIRTY WATER ACTION

This is the first of three UK-wide actions in the run-up to 21 April highlighting the pollution of our waterways. In Wandsworth a chance for us to highlight discharges of sewage into the Wandle. We’re thinking of a photo opportunity at a bridge over the Wandle and a walk along the river. Times and places TBD. You can find out more about the campaign here

Valentine’s Day action

This will be part of XR Wandsworth’s run-up to 21 April, a chance to invite more people to join us. All details including time and place to be confirmed, but please put the date in your diary.

21 April: time to demand change

This is the day we’ve all been building towards. From 21 April onwards, we plan to bring 100,000 people to Parliament to tell the government it’s time for change. It’s time to get off fossil fuels and build a safer, fairer society that works for everyone.

London Christmas Action at the Coca-Cola Store

Green Santa and his elves will be visiting the Coca-Cola Store in Soho, to be joined by the famous Red Rebels. It will be a fun, family-friendly event, organised by XR London and Plastics Rebellion. On 6 November, the first day of COP27, the store was targeted by Wandsworth and Lambeth rebels protesting against the fact that Coca-Cola, the world’s biggest plastic polluter, was also a COP sponsor, so this will be a return visit. Let’s make sure they notice!

XR Wandsworth Christmas action

Let’s make Christmas about giving love rather than celebrating consumption. Join us from 12pm to 2pm outside Southside to hand out leaflets, talk to people, and have fun. We will have Green Santa, Elves in green and red hazmat suits, Christmas carols, perhaps some dancing to the rhythms of ‘Staying Alive’. From 2pm we’ll gather at the King’s Arms – a chance to socialise with other Wandsworth rebels and celebrate another year of XR Wandsworth!

Day of action against Barclays

As part of a national day of protest against Barclays’ funding of fossil fuels, XR Wandsworth will be protesting outside all three local Barclays branches – Tooting Broadway, Clapham Junction and Putney. Join us to hand out leaflets, hold a banner, wave a flag, and talk to passersby.

At Clapham Junction and Tooting, we’ll be there from 8am to 10.30. At Putney we’ll be there from 9.30-11.30. Do come along whenever you can, even if it’s just for half an hour.

Mass action at Westminster

Disruptive non-violent civil disobedience, joining forces with other groups organising around the cost of living crisis. Meet XR Wandsworth at the 4th plinth in Trafalgar Square at 12.30, moving towards Whitehall and Downing Street at 1.30.

Festival of Resistance

EVENT POSTPONED. ‘Due to today’s news about the passing of Queen Elizabeth, the Rebellion Planning team, and other groups involved, have made the difficult decision to postpone the Festival of Resistance this weekend in London until further notice.’ For the full XR UK statement, visit: https://extinctionrebellion.uk/2022/09/08/statement-on-cancellation-of-festival-of-resistance-this-weekend/

Barclays Bank crime scene action

For our next Banking for Extinction action we’re back in Tooting. Barclays is Europe’s biggest fossil fuel funder. We have to keep highlighting their planet-destroying crimes. Most customers have no idea how their money is being invested.
